It is so easy to get lost here because streets suddenly turn dead end at a river. I emailed the free walking tour that I ran late, and they told me no way to catch up with them later because the roads here are complicated. I made a lot unintended turns and happily got lost in Venice to see surprising spots. Btw, it costs 2 euro to use toilet here, so it is cheaper to buy 1.5 euro bottle water to use the toilet in a cafe. — checked in to Venice, Italy.

We got into the Basilica in the early morning before the reception was ready, then passed the bridge Rielto to get to the st Marco church.  We then took 11 am free (tip based) 3-HR walking tour. The guide was sociology major and very informative. She took us to many only locals know secret spots, such as the meat hook at a wall for 1/4 of body parts of serious criminals to display (now said to bring luck), a whistle blowing animal head statue receiver, beautiful church now functioning a public hospital, statues in front of shipbuilding yard, etc. On the way back to Mastre to change socking wet clothes after a raining day, I surprisingly ran into my northern Virginia hiking fellow Tasha! (Once in a million probability? Forgot to selfie us though).
