I
took a 2-HR bus to Plovdiv, and fell in love with it after a 2-hr
walking tour. Its culture is a living history that combines Thracian,
ancient Greek, Byzantine, and Roman influences. I heard music all around
in a very relaxing atmosphere called Ailiok: Spirit of life, Enjoy
life, unemployed, etc. Located beneath modern Plovdiv at the original
level of ancient Philippopolis, the Stadium was commissioned by Emperor
Hadrian in the 2nd century for 30,000 speculators. When passing by
Ancient Roman Theatre, we heard an opera rehearsal. The tour ended at
Nebet Hill, a Roman fortress complex that offers beautiful bird’s eye
views of the city and the Maritsa River. — checked in to Plovdiv Old Town.
